Richard Okolo is the founder of RJW Legal and a solicitor with over 14 years’ post-qualification experience, having qualified in 2011. He specialises in Mental Health Law, the Court of Protection, safeguarding, and private client services including will-writing and residential property legal advice.

A Law Society Accredited Mental Health Panel Member, Richard has represented clients in thousands of Mental Health Tribunals, Court of Protection hearings, and complex safeguarding cases. His career includes serving as Director and Joint Head of Mental Health Law at a specialist firm and most recently, working as a Lawyer for a Local Authority, advising on adult care, capacity, and safeguarding duties. This work included reviewing policies and drafting guidance to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards. Combined with his earlier experience as Director and Joint Head of Mental Health Law at a specialist firm, Richard brings both public and private sector insight to his practice, enabling him to provide clear, solution-focused advice for individuals and organisations alike.

Alongside his core specialisms, Richard has experience in Property law, including assisting clients with lease reviews, co-ownership issues, possession proceedings for both landlords and tenants, and a range of residential and commercial property matters. He has represented clients in court in possession matters and provided clear, practical guidance to individuals, families, and businesses navigating complex housing and property issues. This breadth of expertise allows him to support clients across both welfare and property-related legal challenges.

In addition to his legal practice, Richard delivers specialist training to NHS Trusts and healthcare teams nationwide, helping frontline staff apply the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding law confidently in practice.

Richard founded RJW Legal to offer a law firm rooted in clarity, compassion, and accessibility. Drawing on his leadership experience and insight from both public and private sector work, he provides trusted and practical advice tailored to each client’s needs.

Outside of work, Richard enjoys spending time with his family, reading, keeping active, and listening to music.
